Leaving it all behind

My name is Jordan.

You may know me in real life. You may know me from some of the various podcasts I've hosted and/or produced over the years at HHWLOD. You may be one of a handful of people to remember when I posted YouTube videos regularly. We may have been coworkers, or have gone to school together, or you might not have any idea who I am... and that's fine.

Regardless, you never really knew me.

For years, I've been miserable. I hated school. I hated my job. I hated myself.

And that sucked. I sucked.

So I'm not going to do that any more. I'm making some huge changes in my life.

I quit my job. I got rid of all my crap. I fixed up my car. I've said my goodbyes.

In a few days, I'm hitting the road and leaving my old life behind.

So where am I going? Well my first main destination is Austin, Texas. Austin has a thriving arts and entertainment industry, and I'd love to get involved with it.

You see, I love to entertain people; I always have. As a kid I wanted to be an actor. Lots of kids say they want that, but those of us who are a bit more practical realize that only a few select people get to make a living acting. It's an attainable dream, but it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and more than a little luck, plus a lot of talent.

So I never pursued that dream.

I pursued other dreams. Dreams that still interested me to some degree, but, if I'm being completely honest, were only placeholders. They were my silver and bronze metals in life. Gold would be incredibly difficult to win, so why even try? But that's where things got messy. Even though I wasn't chasing gold, I still failed to achieve silver or bronze. Hell, even plastic was eluding my grasp.

Well I've decided that's a really dumb way to live my life.

Why run a race you're not even fully invested in winning?

I'd rather run in a much harder race that I actually want to win.

I want to work in film, television, theater, online, radio, music, and video games. I want to act, write, direct, edit, voice, operate a camera, hold a boom mic, and more!

Is it going to be hard? Yes! Is it going to take a ton of work, luck, and missed meals? Yes!

But I'm willing to put in that work. I'm ready to climb those ladders. I'm prepared to give all I have.

And it all starts in just a few days.

This blog is going to follow my journey from New Jersey to Texas. I'm going to be posting a vlog on my old YouTube channel as well, but I know I won't always have the bandwith available to me for posting video, so this blog will often end up being the default.

It's going to be part travel blog, part job hunting, part venting. I intend it to be entertaining(this first entry being a poor example of that; I expect most of my writing will me much less morose). I might post short stories, or even chapters of longer tales I plan on writing. Hopefully this blog, and the rest of my upcoming life, will be full of not-terrible surprises.

I'm about to embark on an exciting, and terrifying, journey. Want to come with me?
